This is a great illustration of what's screwy with this poll...

It's a comparison of different types of products...it's like comparing a CNC mill with a manual one...

I am still using AutoCad14 with BobCad 20.5.

    Still works so why change.

Silo2. I do 'Artsy stuff'. I haven't been able/had time to figure out blender, silo's just too easy to use!
I use Google Sketchup for some more inanimate stuff like work plans.

Solid Edge is a UGS product (makers of I-DEAS and UG), entirely different from Solidworks.

I, too, cut my teeth on A-CAD. I moved on to Solidworks, then I-DEAS (have SEVERAL thousand hours logged). I resisted Pro/E for several years, but have recently seen the light.

I do agree that comparing parametric solid-modelling to a 2-D tool that can be forced to make crude solids is aples-to-oranges.

    Just my $0.02

Question What is best for marine creations?

    Hi all,

i am just a month away from giving 60000 euro in order to purchase a full DELCAM package (one seat)..CAD, CAM, copyCAD for translating from a 3d scanner and an inspection plug in (powerINSPECT) because i 've already bought a big 5 axis CNC machine (25mx8mx4m) with a fanuc controller and i am afraid of breaking something. Does anyone know if i should go for VERICUT and use a CAD/CAM software that supports parametric design (UGS, Pro Engineer, CATIA?) for better results or i could do the job with the (less featured) DELCAM software that has many disadvantages but is a bit more user friendly??? My field is the marine industry, windmills and maybe small aircrafts..Any suggestions?? Please, you can also PM me if anyone has used any of the above mentioned software for complex (but with no extreme details) structures like boats (hulls,decks,parts)..Thank you!
