Vacpress: on a slightly more serious note, if you are looking to do a robotic arm let me know, i might be able to help you out with it. Im a phd student and most of my work is with small robotic arms, i could always dig out some lecture notes covering the inverse kinematics etc.

as for the gantry router, do you really need one? what i mean is if your designing it for the sake of designing something then maybe picking a project that hasnt been done to death by hundreds of other people would be of more benefit.

a very simple project, but one that people might find useful, would be a pan + tilt camera system, as lots of people are starting to use cctv, and the commercial ones are way overpriced, just a thought.
