UG NX CAM
Sorry if this has been asked somewhere before, but I couldn't find it, so...
Would you recommend UG NX CAM for relatively complex 3-to-5 axis milling, and very basic lathe-work?
Any serious comments on why or why not would be appreciated.

NX cam
UG NX is not the easiest to learn but after doing the tutorials enough on the Cad then the Cam I was able to get it to work for mills and lathes. It took some time to write post processors for a Prototrak Mill and Lathe but I know the mill post processor worked ok with maybe 30 seconds of minor editing.
...... In my opinion if you are used to Mastercam and Solidworks you should be able to figure out NX. Some things are different of course but much is similar. It helps tremendously if you get the tutorials for UG NX. There are a few books on it but not that many.

I have UG NX 7.5 available to me for use, but I don't know how to use it, so thank you DMF-TomB for the manuals and tutorials. I plan on spending some time learning how to use it now.
Back to your question ... My opinion is that without some qualifiers on your part, size of the shop, annual budget, type of business, manufacturin and design, just manufacturing, just design, and things like that it's a little difficult to answer your question.
If you are a small shop, it wouldn't be worth it because of the expense and the maintenance cost of the software, not to mention the difficulty in finding experienced NX Programmers, imagine a mom and pop shop trying to hire a programmer away from The Boeing Aircraft Co.

I totaly agree with you
only larger companies can afford nx
I have seen and worked on both nx and x5 side by side.
nx took 3 hours to regen
mastercam took 8 hr to do the same part
Tried to match all machining parameters.
Nx is very easy and powerful.
Mastercam is also easy but only 50% efficient what nx can do.
Both are very good at what they can do.
Programers around my area know
Mastercam ,nx,partmaker,esprit.
But no one I know knows more then two softwares real good.

Lots of errors happening. DOUBLE POSTS are becoming common again.
If it says wait and submit again, open in a new window and you will probably find the submit worked.

We use Catia V5 for 3 to 5 Axis programming -I think it has the most options in the method to cut a part
