Problem- voltage reading for DHC

I purchased a slightly used Plasmacam table in Febuary and have just made my first cuts. I cannot get the DHC to work. The voltage reading in the diagnostics page reads zero when I fire the torch. I am using a hypertherm 1000 with fine cut comsumables. I watched the plasma cutter wireing video and found the red and black wires were connected wrong. I tried it again and it still didn't work. Would that wreck the controler? Any help would be great.
