Bill
What is the age model and makeup of your Vicon? I have just obtained a Vicon 9000 with stepper drives and a Thermal Dynamics PAK 5XR plasma unit that I will be refurbishing and updating. If your unit is as old as mine (1988) your computer system probably needs to be updated too.

If you have the time to tackle yours we can probably swap info. Looks like about a hundred hours or so stretched out over several months.

I'm Trying to convert ONE plasmacam (pcm) file, to dxf can anyone help? I do not have plasmacam, I bought a file for making plasmacam grid slats for the cnc table I built and Was not aware that pcm files cannot be converted without plasmacam software, If someone who HAS Plasmaca can convert it to dxf for me I would be willing to share the file with you in exchange.

Does anyone know

I have an old plasmacam 98-z.

I am wondering if It is possible to get a new controller for it that will allow me to stretch the table out to 4 x 8?

or if it is possible to do this with the existing software?

I have/had both. I had the 4x4 table for 5 years. Never had a single problem. In 2009 I traded it in on their new 5x10 table (samson). And I love it as well!

The 1250 rocks! Best purchase I ever made.

There was a bit of a learning curve for me but it did not take to long to pick up.

Good luck!

I don't own a plasmacam but by all indications they are a good machine with good customer service. As long as the frame size you ordered & the material you plan to cut fits the projected usage of the tables capabilities, all should be good.

I have owned two PlasmaCams.....first one was about 8 or 9 years ago.....I bought their original machine, the 98Z. Loved it.....although it required a little tinkering now and then. I sold it two years ago for close to what I had originally paid (It had paid for itself many times over). I then bought the third generation PlasmaCam....the DHC2. It is a great machine....they seem to have solved all of the issues with the original machine, and designed a torch height control system that rivals the big industrial machines.....it always works (as long as I push the correct buttons). Great machine.....I have a hypertherm Powermax45 on mine.

Plasmacam

When you compare, consider this:
Plasmacam and Samson have 3 years warranty and free phone support.
Digital torch height control is included standard.
Ohmic material sensing is standard.
Servo motors are standard.
CAD is integrated into the machine control software. The software is graphic and you do not need to know g-code.
