I am having trouble setting up my picstep with Mach3. My hope is to do 1/4 stepping. If I am using firmware v2 then I should have a shunt on J1 but NOT J2 ? Thanks John W.

| I obviously don't understand schematics or something but when I look at the "schematic v4.0" I see this for the step settings J1 J2 0 0 - 1/8 step (I assumed this meant no shunts) 0 1 - 1/4 step 1 0 - 1/2 step 1 1 - full step (and this meant both jumpers shunted) As I understand it this was modified to this with v2 of the firmware J1 J2 0 0 - 1/16 step (I assumed this meant no shunts) 0 1 - 1/8 step 1 0 - 1/4 step 1 1 - 1/2 step (and this meant both jumpers shunted) Heres my problem, I seem to get 1/16 stepping with both shunts on and 1/2 stepping with no shunts on. But wait it gets trickier I get 1/4 stepping with a shunt on J1 and no shunt on J2 but if the above 1/16-1/2 step observation holds shouldn't the stettings be the opposite of what I observed for the 1/4 step So I guess the first question is: Does "1" mean shunt or no shunt? Is it even possible to screw up assembly in such a way that some but not all the settings are backward and then repeat it 3 times? Maybe I just need some sleep and some fresh eyes. Any thoughts are welcome, John W

| Usually a '1' indicates a high logic level (or +5v) on an input. In the picstep design I think there are resistors pulling the inputs up (which makes them high by default) and the jumpers short the inputs to ground (or '0') so probably '0' is jumper installed. You could probably verify this by looking at the source code. I can't understand why the other two settings would be reversed though. |

| I'll have to relook at my jumpers again. Not to belabor the point but dtman2 said[
