| The pic 18F series is the minimum you should use from microchip. A pic,12 and 16 are close to the same price and why bother ? They support the 18F with a good C compiler and it has much better power. The 297/298 is so old and not even mosfet. They run hot and rough and have been around since the 80's. Use a newer chip from Allegro, check their site.
