Time permitting, I am trying to get up to speed with some Pic Microchip projects I have on the back-burner, one of them now on the front burner is the requirement to send some digital data, switch status and incremental encoder output ( slow rate 100p/sec max), no analogue, by remote transmission. I am toying with using a Pic and off the shelf radio transmitter and reciever. 20ft range. Transmit serially? Although I am thinking that if I use standard serial protocol, I may have to record and update the encoder before transmission. Before I get carried away, I wondered if anyone has any thoughts/experience or can think of any downside before I launch into something. Or any components that would fit the bill. Non-PC based BTW. Thanks Al.

| The MICRFxxx radio chips from Micrel looks easy to use and is available from digikey. I believe they "replace" the wires that normally connect the Tx to the Rx pins between two uarts. The most obvious approach is to encode the information in several bytes and transmit them as RS232 using the PIC's uart. |

| There are really cheap rf modem modules for both ends receive and transmit all over the web. uart out to modem, modem out to uart at the receive end. http://www.lemosint.com/scripts/tx_rx_3a.asp I've seen on the web similar modules for less than $20/pair ready to go multiple outlets. http://www.sparkfun.com/shop/index.p...521211&cat=62& look at the RF-KLP on the 2nd page of the above link.

| the ht680 or smaller and associated holtek decoder will fit that bill. http://www.holtek.com/english/products/remote_4.htm i have had over 750 k bytes/sec error free from pc to pc with these chips at 300 feet. Last edited by smarbaga; 01-01-2006 at 09:21 AM. Reason: update |
