    k8048 error when writing problem

Hi. i have a velleman k8048 which worked ok until i was given the wrong footprint for a transistor and blew quite a few of them and also a few PIC's.
i have also recently tried an erase code and bulk data

problem is now when writing i get the message write error at 0000
    wrote 3400
    read 0000
i have also tried to write with demo1 to be sure it was not my program and it says wrote 280A instead of 3400, thats the only difference.
my program compiles ok and runs in the simulator ok, it just wont write.
i have quite a limited understanding of this process as i am self tought
could i have blown a transistor on the k8048, any advice on how to check this, laymens terms please.
    many thanks

    Hi,

I am haveing the same problem. and like Walkerandy have also had no luck with the velleman forums. mine will say it has programed correctly if I use an empty hex file.
also My pin 4 on the 18 pin socket it at about 8V witch I am asuming is either the problem or a symptom of the same problem. please could some one with a working unit measure the voltages on the soket while the switch is set to PROG.

    Thanks

    Hi Graham

    Read your thread on CNC.

    Look on this forum under

Kits(soldering projects)>mocrocontroller programming>experimenting projects>k8048 : PIC not fully made voltageless in "sleep" mode.

Makes interesting reading.. not tried it yet

Nobody seems to know the answers to our questions??

I'm thinking of buying a new kit!!

ok heres some more info Vellerman

    i have been using a program i wrote 2 years ago. (PIC12F675)

built in MPlab ok and wrote ok on PICkit2
DID write ok in PROGPIC2 and wrote ok to K8048
Then would not write from PROGPIC2 or PICPROG2009 (errors)
Tried to build program in MPASMWIN had 33 ERRORS!!

Is Vellerman able to look at my program and check??
Also any settings i can check in any of my software

    Thanks

Yup, you likely damaged your programmer . Uncontrolled currents from blown up transistors can take out alot of things when they die, programmers included. I am assuming, that the programmer you are using is an in circuit programmer. one that plugs into the target board to program one of the f style pic chips.

Your options are either fix the programmer, which you might be able to do if you can trace circuits and read schematics, or if not, you'll likely have to just purchase a new programmer.

I'm assuming that you wrote your program in pic assembler.

You want to make sure that mpasmwin invokes the same assembler and linker that MPLAB uses. Also, you will want to make sure that if you use any include files (You no doubt do, to get port names and port bit locations, etc) that they are looked for in the same place as mplab. ie. Make sure that mpasmwin doesn't look for it in a different place. It would be easiest, however, if you simply kept using MPLAB to build the program and then use your pic programmer control program to load the hex file and burn it into the pic you are writing code for.

check t4 and d7 they are the weakest from the kit and first to die
you can also check for the reset button, it should be open

first without serial cable! and without pic!!
the prog switch to prog mode with power supply

the in comming voltage should be atleast 16 volts
the vpp should be around 12.5 - 13.5 volt

if this is correct you can check it with cable and pic

if you get a reading try to erase the pic first
then try to program it again

    good luck with this
if the kit prove to be death dont buy another one you should buy a pickit sold by microchip they are far better
