Here are some nice open source tools I've encountered for PICs and the Velleman programmers. Small Device C Compiler: http://sdcc.sourceforge.net/ K8048 interface software for Linux/FreeBSD: http://dev.kewl.org/k8048/Doc/ JAL (Just Another Language) v2 compiler for PICs. JAL is an easy to learn/use language specifically for PICs.
