I bought an Abene mill --about a 6hp motor-- if I use a 10hp motor for a Fitch Williams style phase convertor will that be enough to run it well? What if I get a 7.5hp 3 phase air compressor will it run that OK? Brad H |

| I built my own RPC with a 5hp idler. In the forums that I read before building it they suggested starting a tool motor no larger than 80% of the idler (10hp idler 8hp tool motor). Also read that you can run a gang of tool motors up too 120% of the idler(10hp idler three 4hp tool motors). I have not tried this. I'm running a 1hp Bridgeport with my home made unit. Building it myself with used idler, new capacitors, used contact relays and motor starters from a machine scrap yard cost me about $75.00. Wire I had on hand. Elect. drawings on the net. Saved about $600.00. Jim |
