I am installing new controls on a knee mill and would like to install a VFD so I can do tapping. At the very least I need to use a floating tap head, although ridgid tapping would be ideal, once Mach 3 gains support for it or if I possible go with another program I may integrate it. The motor is 3HP and I would prefer a conver that can run on 220v 1ph. Which do you guys suggest? |

| Hi Green, I am very happy with my Hitachi SJ200. It is very programable and has sensorless vector control which means you don't lose torque at lower rpms. You don't get full hp at low speed but it is much beter than Hz/v control. It takes in 240v 1ph and outs 3ph. I am using it under full cnc control. Mike

| The SJ200 Hitachi is an excellant choice ! I just converted from a 2 pole motor and L200 to a 4 pole motor and the SJ200 and have torque down low and am running the motor to 120 hz for top rpm. You will need the low end torque to be able to tap with using your tapping head, and as for rigid tapping using a hard driver NO SOAP yet with mach3 What ever inverter drive you choose, make certain it is a "CONSTANT TORQUE" model
