I was running a job the other day when I heard a loud POP!, and noticed that my spindle was slowing down. I walked over and hit the EStop, and sure enough the display on the VFD was off. There's wasn't anything obviously wrong (ie. no smoke, no flames, etc).
I wasn't sure what happened, so I thought that maybe it was just the breaker. I checked the panel and the 20A breaker had been tripped. I looked at all my connections and everything was tight.
So, I flipped the breaker back on and went over to the VFD. When I applied power to the VFD, the breaker for the entire 100A panel clicked off! Oh boy. I'm not sure what happened, but the VFD is toast. I'm going to send it back to China for replacement, but I'm seriously thinking about upgrading to a Hitachi XJ200 or SJ200 as my primary VFD.
Any thoughts on what happened? Any ideas? This has functioned flawlessly for 6 months, running small jobs all the time. No problems at all until now.

Cant really help but, I have purchased the X200 3 hp VFD for my 2.2kw Chinese spindle instead of the Huanyang one out of the fear of reliability problems. After all, the price difference between the two VFDs is small. I'm knew to all this so I am trying to figure out how to set it all up. I guess the only disadvantage is that most on the zone seem to have the Huanyang and there is not as much forum support if you are a newbie.
