This is my first foray into wiring anything 3-phase myself, so I have a really stupid question; I am trying to hook a VFD up to an unbranded HF spindle (very similar to the one sold by Homeshopcnc). It came with no diagrams or provenance to obtain them. It has a connector with 4 leads, meaning the motor is configured internally already. External markings are limited to: RH62DX-.08/11, 400hz, 24000rpm, 220v, 3.9a My problem, given access to just those leads, how do I determine proper phase sequence to hook them up? |

| By looking at the one on the HSCNC site, I would think that three are the 3 phase in and the fourth possibly a ground. You could confirm this by taking a reading from the case to each pin in turn. If so, you hook up the VFD to the remaining three and swap any two of the three leads to reverse. Al.

| Yes, it does appear that they are for the three phase in with one ground. My only worry was that if the order of the phases in could not be arbitrary (i.e. only one correct order to hook up for each direction), that I could screw something up. Dumb question I know, its my first time with 3-phase. If order does not matter, and I can safely hook up the the three inputs in any given order without fear of damage, and to switch any two for rotation, that answers my question. Thanks! |

| Yup you have it, connect it up and swap any two if it goes the wrong way. Make sure you identify the ground properly and it should be fine. Also most VFD's I have installed will allow you to reverse direction either with a parameter or button on the panel, but swapping two phase wires will work as well. Russell. |
