Help with Alan Bradley 1305 VFD

G'day Guys

I recently got a hold of an Alan Bradley 1305 1.5 Kw (2Hp)VFD. This unit has three phase input or Single Phase input, and 3 phase output 0.1-400Hz.
The Manual says that to use on single phase supply to connect the active and neutral to any two of the 3 phase inputs. Which i have done and the unti is working great.

Now the manual also sudgests that for Single phase supply that the motor should be derated to 0.75Kw.
I understand that the reasion for this is that the rectifier and filter cap in the drive have less phases to work from so only part of the diode pack is taking the full current and of course more ripple for the filter caps to smooth out.
Now my question is can i bridge the active line to the remaning Phase input? Ie so have Neutral to L1, Active to L2 AND L3.

I can't see any reasion why you couldn't do this and i think this would allow more of the diode pack to be used therefor sharing the load currents. I realise that this would not do much about the ripple voltage though.

Would this have any noticable improvment in the KW rating?

Cheers

Yes all you would be doing is paralleling up the unused bridge diodes. No other benefits.
Makes no difference to the Kw rating, as such.

Thanks for the reply Al

So what are my options here? What if i was to wire some larger caps in parrallel with the existing filter caps?

What about the use of a rotary phase converter to give me true 3 phase then feed this into my VFD?

Or should i just give up and buy a higher capacity VFD...

Cheers

I have found it depends on the demand you place on it, I have two Mills with 2hp spindles and Mits 1.5kw VFD's and I have yet to experience any problem with spindle overload etc.
