Newbie Rotary Phase Conv. Question

What is the largest RFC that I can safely run on a 100 amp household feed?
I am wanting to eventually operate a cnc lathe at home. Probably in the 10-15 hp range. Is this possible with my limited service? Let me know.
I hope that I posted this correctly.

Let me know.

Thanks

I have used a 20hp phase converter on a 100 amp service running a 10 hp machine. I used a 100 amp breaker on the branch circuit that fed the converter.Care must be taken to avoid turning on the dryer + stove + machine at the same time, but it works just fine.
FYI home service panels installed according to code are not sized so that everything in the house can be run at once. The loads attached to the panel almost always exceed 100 amps if everything gets turned on at once.
If you want more info, see if your local library has a residential code book. It will have tables to help calculate what size of panel is required based on the square footage of the home and what large appliances are installed. Even if you don't do the electrical work yourself, it's good to know exactly what needs to be done in order to make it a safe installation.
