3 phase motor

A 3ph motor in a machine I am going to be hooking a Hitachi 220volt output
VFD to, has 3 lead wires for the motor that are marked U11 V11 W11,
and 3 more that are marked U12 V12 W12.

I am looking to see what three leads to use when connecting from the VFD to the motor.

Are these sets used for voltage depending on what incoming
voltage to the machine is,220v or 440v?
In other words would 220v use U11 V11 and W11, while
440v would use the U12 V12 and W12 set.

The ohms between U11 V11 and W11 each is 4.5 and
between U12 V12 and W12 each is 3.9 ohms.

There are 18 wires in total at the electrical coonection box of the
motor itself, seperate from the ground ,none of which are marked inside the connection box.

I have attached a copy of the motor wiring plate if needed.
Thanks for your help.

It's more than that. Looks like you have a multi wound motor. You have low speed set, a high speed set, and a high voltage set of each from the drawing.

Buy me a Beer?

Dual speed, dual voltage motor.
It looks like your diagram has an error, you show two X2's and no U4??
The X2 on the RH Star should be U4.
Use the bottom right hook up connections.

true but it is running as wired right now,or it was untill I took it home to a place without 3-phase and I have not disconnected any motor connections.
so I was thinking I "could get lucky".

You are right Al, the x2 should be a U4. I had an idea i should use
the lower right for my hook up but wasn't sure. Only trouble being I cannot tell what wires are what coming out of the motor. The only thing I have to go on is the motor plate diagram and the connections that are currently used at the motor.
I find it hard to believe any company could wire a motor and not tag the wires.

It would appear they have pre-set it for either voltage, I would put 220 on each set in turn and check the current with a clamp-on meter. Use the higher current connection.
If it is already hooked up for particular supply, that should give you the hook up you want, if you know the previous installation voltage?

You can still try it with the switches in place but NEVER switch any leads between the VFD and the motor with the VFD powered up, even if not running. It will almost certainly destroy most VFDs.
Read the VFD manual carefully about warnings related to switching motor wires, and with regards to how long VFD must (might need to be. some do) be switched off for before switching/changing a VFD output UVW connection.

Of course AL called it right with bottom right wiring. this is called a dahlander wound motor. google it, for instance:

dahlander motor - Google Search

we have these running on Hitachi drives same way and they run fine.

saying thanks

I wired it to the "bottom right", and the machine runs AWESOME!
smooth, quiet and the Hitachi Drive is nice to use!

Thanks to all for your help, I finally am able to use the machine!
As usuall I made a mistake, yeah I make more than I care to admit ,
and purchased the drive based on being broke and needing to save as much as possible. I knew better than to purchase from the discount store feeling they wouldn't be able to help and hindsight proved right they where no help.
