need help, what phase converter to buy

hello i recently purchaced a lathe made by hardinge. i wish to run it in my garage. i have 220 single phase power comming in. the lathe runs on 220 three phase. the motor is a diehl 2 speed reversable. high speed is 3/4 hp 1710 rpm 2.5 amp. low speed is 3/8 hp 530 rpm 2.5 amp. there is a handle attatched to a cam switch that changes speeds. i was looking at a phase-a-matic static phase converter. i spoke with their tec. with no luck. he gave me the run around. can somebody please give me some advise on what converter to buy to run this machine? thank you in advance. Buy me a Beer?

Use a VFD, 1 phase in 3 ph out.
Plus you get variable rpm.

It depends on hp and draw on motor to be ran. I have bought many of these off ebay cheap with no problems you can try to go cheap with a static converter but I have been told they are no good for lathes mills and most machinery that is turned on and off alot. A cheap 3hp rotary converter should do it easy I had a 10hp converter running an old clausing monster lathe 3 hp motor with no effort at all. alot of sellers on ebay have nice charts on their page. Good luck it really is easy most people will say just build on.

Ralph, I will PM u also but u can simply purchase a Hitachi X200-007NFU and wire the motor in high speed and run it directly from your 230v 1ph input. this is common application.
