Hi, So I've searched all day both on google and on this forum for someone explaning how to control the huanyang VFD+spindle from mach3 via gecko540, without any luck. I'm having trouble getting this to work. Ive connected the +10V, Vi and ACM from VFD to the 7, 8 and 9 pins on the G540 as of the manual. The VFD was setup to correctly run from the VFD panel first (so I know its working on its own). Then I changed the PD001 and 002 to 1 I also changed the PD070's to the correct values. 0-10V = 0-400Hz, etc. In Mach3, spindle is turned on, and step is put on pin 14, dir on 0. The port is 1 for both. PWM is turned on, and base freq is set 50 (should this be 400?) and min PWM is set to 0%. Spindle step is set to 1000, acc set to 1. And pulley: min 0, max 24000, ratio 1. So when I turn on the spindle by command: M3 S10000 - nothing happens. The VFD display is not showing any difference. What have I missed? When I get home, I will measure that Gecko actually puts out a voltage of something between 0 and 10V on the Vi. Thanks for any and all help!! |

| The connections you've made between the G540 and your VFD controls the speed of your spindle. You will also need to have the connections between the G540 and your VFD to start and stop the spindle. You'll have to connect your VFD's FWD (Run Forward) and CMN (Common) to a relay that is in turned connected to OUTPUT1 or OUTPUT2 of the G540. Once you've got the above setup, you then setup the Relay Control in Mach3, Config->Ports and Pins-> Spindle Setup to select OUTPUT1 or OUTPUT2 for your M3. |

| Thanks dudes! So, if I just short the FOR and Commons terminal on the VFD, I would get the same effect as turning on the relay, right? But if I do this, the spindle will be running at mininmum speed all the time? Thanks! |

Shorting the FOR and COM terminal on the VFD just starts the spindle. You can still control the speed of the spindle with your S command or the Spindle Panel on Mach 3. |

Hi need a little help setting up same setup I've been trying to follow the setup here with no look. I have connected my G540 to the VFD as the drawing EN010_V8.pdf 7 - ACM / 8 - VI / 9 - 10V wire from pin 5 G540 to pin 4 SSR wire from +Vdc to pin 4 SSR wire from pin 2 SSR to VFD FOR wire from pin 1 SSR to VFD DCM I have been using the VFD to control my spindle prior to trying this setup all worked fine. On the VFD control panel I changed PD001 to 1 & PD002 to 1 for external terminal. now not to sure if I have it right in Mach3. attached pic of setup I set PWM base to 400 not sure if this correct it also keeps changing to 401 or 403 ! I'm sure i've miss understood something cheers for any help |

| Your wiring looks good. I changed my relay from an electro-mechanical relay to the Crydom SSR. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the SSR to work. It would start up the spindle but it would never completely stop. So I had to go back to my electro-mechanical relay. The attachments show how I've got Mach 3 set-up to run my spindle. |

| If I understand it correctly, you are using a 240vac TRIAC output SSR to switch low voltage DC control. If going with an isolated switch, you need something with a DC logic level output. Al.

But I'm using (I think) a DC logic level output and it didn't work for me either. It seemed that the output does not completely shut down. Attached is what I tried. They work if I use them to turn my stepper motor brake on and off on my z-axis, but not when I use it to turn my spindle on/off. I would love to replace my electro-mech relay with an SSR. Anything you can recommend? |

| Hi Al Electrics Not my best subject. I have looked for a similar relay that homanndesigns sells in the UK. not having much look, if you could point me in the right direction what i'm looking for from a UK supplier it would save me a lot of hair pulling ( what little I have ) cheers for the heads up KAT |

| What you have to look at is the Off state output current, many have 5ma off current, which can be the cause of not turning off. You could simply use a 4N25 for 50˘. In the attached drawing, just separate the commons for isolation, and you do not need the 4.7k output resistor on the collector. Al.
