I don’t know how I will go here but hopefully someone may have an answer. I have a good quality bench grinder specs are 1 HP, 415V 3 phase, 2800 RPM, 1.5 Amps. Can this unit be run directly off 220V 3 phase without damaging it? If not can it be converted from 415V to 220V, noting that there are only 3 wires coming out of the motor casing, if it can only be run at 415V in this configuration is it possible to make a change internally to allow rewiring to 220V? If so I would pass it to specialist motor rewinder to do this. Thanks Cam |

| Normally dual voltage motors have at least 3 pairs of wires coming off the motor, if dual voltage Star, then there would be a 9 wires. If you only have 3 then I would suspect it has been wound for uniquely 415v. If so opening it up would be no advantage. Al.

| Not something I would recommend, the current induced into the rotor is going to be proportionately less this will lead to reduced torque, greater slip (rpm), etc, and will not take to load lightly. If you try it, monitor the phase currents while you do. I suspect the performance will be less than stellar. Al.
