Default what converter do I need?

I purchased a 95 Cincinati lathe, an avenger 250t it has a 30 hp 57 amp motor, it came with a 30 kv transformer what converter will it need? We have a 100 amp to the house 60 amp to the garage, we are also looking at a Haas 7.5 hp mill so we would like to be able to run them at the same time if posible.

Unless that is a type and its 3.0 HP , You don’t have enough power. You need alt least 33% more amps coming into a 3P rotary converter on the single phase line than the load needs. 57Amps 3P X 1.33 is 75A single phase. You need a least a 40HP rated rotary converter to run a 30 HP motor. The good news is you can probably run the HAAS using the motor on the Cincinnati as an idler once its started but the Hass does not have a conventional spindle motor so it returns little or no power to the 3rd leg . The starting current on a bog rotary converter will probably overload your 60Amp breaker.

I think you have two options here, install at least a 100 amp, 3 phase service to your garage, or get a 35 KW or larger 3 phase generator. That's a lot of power requirement for a home shop. Maybe renting or buying nearby industrial shop space would possibility for you. I do not have a large CNC lathe in my home shop because I don't have enough power to run it.

Ok thanks for your input the haas can be run on 220 single phase so it was the lathe I was wondering about. I could rent a bay somewhere but would prefer sometime next spring or I could have a 200 amp service installed, I'm not sure about 3 phase in my neighbourhood

You can get 3phase if you have a spare 20K, plus the service fees, which are on going even it you don't use it, it much cheaper to go with a large 220v single phase system

I have a 400A service for my house, and can have more if I ever want it, I use 200 plus Amps for the work shop, I use a Phase Perfect for any 3phase needs, the Haas will use a 60A supply on single phase, but will never use that much when it is running

I never recommend a RPC for CNC machines, some machines will run fine with a RPC and others will be nothing but trouble, Phase Perfect is the only one I would recommend for using single phase to 3 phase for any CNC machines, they cost but are worth every cent
