    Default VFD Inverter in place of a rpc?

    Folks, I have 220v 1P power that I need to convert to 3P. The 3P will get stepped up to 380v 3P to feed a VFD that drives a 7.5kw spindle motor.

    In terms of 1P to 3P conversion, as far as I know, there are 2 main approaches:
    1) RPC
    2) Phase Perfect converter

    I like the idea of the solid state Phase Perfect over the RPC, but I don't like the idea of its cost.

    How about a 3rd option?

    What about using an overrated 220v 3P VFD inverter and feed it 220v 1P power using the [Hitachi] technique outlined in other threads?

    It seems I can get a 220v 3P 15kw VFD for about $800 vs. $3200 for a Phase Perfect.

    Am I missing something here or will this approach work?

    This is your best option,You would have to step the power up from 240v to 380v first with a Transformer, then use a 380v VFD to drive for your spindle

    You can not use the a 240v VFD then a Transformer to get your 380v

    With a Phase Perfect you could get your 240v 3Ph power and then a Transformer=380v then a 380v VFD for the spindle

    Rats. Trying to save some money and avoid the Phase Perfect. Thanks.

    A step-up Transformer and a VFD would be cheaper
