Another idea is to include some registration/alignment holes that match up with the PCB. It would be difficult to otherwise get accurate alignment. These could even be small corner angle cuts that register with the final board outer dimensions.

I know SMD paste is pretty good at wicking to the pad and component, but it really works best if you have a solder mask which would probably be quite difficult to do with this kind of prototyping.
