    PCB Mill

I got bored on duty tonight. So I mocked up a 9x7x8 (LXWXH outside measurements) PCB mill for nema 17 motors. Plan is to use a HF dremel and keep it cheap.

Since I have a cnc from Microcarve (A4) its the limit of the build area. When I get home in a few hours I will upload a few of the pics of the idea.

Arduino 328p for the control system. I plan on using a spare pc power system to run the motors. With a modified steprep control system for emc.

Currently I have a arduino pro mini, if i can get away with it, it will stay the brains.

the z-axis wont have a whole lot of movement after all its just gonna be for pcb's.

This is more of a learning tool than anything else. I will post the costs etc as I go.

    ok blast it.
tramming the table should be fairly easy since the sides are all one peice.

the table doesnt have to be big at all since I mostly make small boards.

ok hit the store for some hardware for it.

seems they dont carry 3/8" mdf so its 1/2".

    but 40 bucks later:

and the intent for the hardware:

ok changed my mind a bit on this after talking with my friends etc.

I ordered 8mm drill rod 2 meters and linear bearing (12) for the guides. I will be getting 20:1 proper rod for it for the screws. after all just make it once dont upgrade later etc.

I emailed microcarve since he has a lathe to turn my 8mm mounts for the guide rods.

1/2 mdf with stout components and build it once. but higher cost.

Drill rod won't last long with linear bearings. The balls in the linear busings will wear into the drill rod. Ball bushings use hardened and ground rods.
8mm/5/16" rods aren't very sturdy either.

ok a bit of an update:

got my steppers, and drivers for it

and switched up routes a bit on it. Instead of a pc I snagged a sample stm32f4 discovery board for it.

Its got just about everthing under the sun on the chip, so i will be able to send commands to this over the network etc. As of right now I am programming a Grbl arm implementation for it. Then its time to make a board to plug it all into. Should be fun.
