Smile LPKF 91 Building new controller

    Hi!

I'm trying to get a LPKF 91 pcb mill with a broken controller board working again.

The mill has 2 stepper motors for x and y axis and a solenoid for the z axis.

What i need to do is replace the whole controller with hardware, only thing i'm worried about however is that i have found no information about using cnc softwares with solenoids for z-axis (it's only on or off basicly). Any ideas?

Also, if you have any example controllerboards i could go for i would love to hear your ideas!

Just talking out loud but a post processor that looked for and appended all Z values with an M code that activated your solenoid could be an option.Like flood coolant on/off or something like that.

So there's no chance of fixing the control board?

    Chuck,

There is ALL the possibilty to convert the equipment to run on EMC2.

Set Your EMC2 to run the machine frame ( machine frame size, leadscrew pitch , motor steps /revolution , homing etc).

For Z axis do the same and limit Z axis to something sensible like say 10 to 20 mm ( or inch equivalent).

Make sure the Z axis is set up for step direction stepper motor configuration.

Ignore the step signal and connect your solenoid driver to the DIRECTION SIGNAL . This way you will activate the Z axis correctly.

I had a look at LPKF gear way back. Too expensive for my budgetat the time so I made my own.

Good luck and feel free to curse the solution if it does not work out .. but I think You owe me a beer.

    Zig,
I'd be happy to buy you a beer anytime.

But Swither was the guy with the LPKF issues.

    Hi,

    Having the same problem,

a broken controller, I tried several PC's and cables still get buffer overrun after a few seconds of milling
the com port is ok, FIFO is off and hardware handshaking is used
If I try the same PC,serial cable etc on another lpkf 91s it is working fine

I think it has something to do with the hardware handshaking part
I replaced the MAX235 but still the same problem

I know will try to replace the CNY74-4 optocouplers which are after the
    MAX235

What is your problem with your board ?
