write to file possible ?

Does anyone know a way to write to a program file using macros ? I would like to pickup and log positions of different part features using probe and macros for in process gaging on m32 control. Can anyone tell me how POPEN and associated commands work and how I can use them to send straight to pc. Do you use the same port as for program transfer? I can do this on a kt modular-d control, but would like to do this on the mazak. Also does anyone have a complete variable list showing machine functions, in particular the ones showing make/break signal for probe and toolsetter? I sincerely appreciate any help you can give me, spending hours reading manuals is starting to wear me out.

Thats pretty vague each control maker has there own type of macro programing. eg. fadal has macro, fanuc macro b, okuma has user task. POPEN is used with DPRNT and PCLOSE for sending variable values via rs-232(same settings that you use to send). As far as probing goes I haven't dealt with it much so I can't help you there. Also system variable are different between machines even if they have fanuc controls so you need to check your manual. I think I covered all your questions let me know if you have more.
