    HeeksCad/Cnc

It's the start of a router mount.

Excuse the lousy photo. The things that look like ridges in the picture don't even catch a fingernail. The machine was stopped 1/4 way through the cycle to check the diameter. It's just a few thou under the programmed dimension of 4". That's when boy genius wondered if the router was exactly 4" diameter. Well 3.5" is close to 4" .... if you're building a fence.

Anyhow.... the code was made with this
    http://code.google.com/p/heekscnc/
    it's well worth a look
Any one else been using it ?

I've used it a bit. It's pretty amazing what it can do so far.

What it can do so far is a lot, especially the cnc plug-in. That's one reason why I quit discussing it in the "newbie CAD" thread.
    Newbie linux CAD?
For people just starting out in cnc less can be more.

How are new tool definitions saved between sessions ? atm I'm recreating them every session which is probably unnecessary.

Thanks Cyclestart for posting the pictures.
Also when you say "Anyone who says "It only goes together one way" has no imagination."
I would add they also don't understand the use of force either.

Ive put together .deb install files for debian and ubuntu users who dont want to have to compile these from source. Ive created them for HeeksCAD, HeeksCAM and the three other packages that required compiling. Let me know if your interested.

    Thanks for doing this Steve.
How are things coming along for you using HeeksCNC? If you need any help on it's use, let me know. I've been into it a lot lately and think it's an awesome CAM package (it's got a few warts, but what CAM package doesn't? ).

PM me your email and Ill get them to you. I emailed a copy of them to Dan Heeks and offered to do a weekly build for him so he may host them in the near future. Nothing set in stone yet.

Im just now getting my feet wet with HeeksCNC. Its been great so far. My CNC build isnt finished yet so I dont have a working machine to output to but its getting close!

I cant for the life of me get Heeks to make a profile cut of this dxf I made in inkscape. Its the outline of a modulas bass guitar that I made from a picture I found online. I can provide the original picture, the bitmap of the silhouette or, the bitmap of the outline if it will help. I saved alot as I went along.

WHen I take it to heeks the sketch loads fine. Select the sketch. hit profile. Hit post process and it should go right?

Thanks for the help in advanced
