    LSI/CSI 8290 Microstepper Controller (New)

You can contact Burt Cohen at LSI/CSI for samples of their new 8290 chip: burtc@lsicsi.com.

He is looking for volunteers to sample the new stepper chip if you are willing to build a prototype.

They want to test the chip before going to final production

There are circuits for unipolar and a IR2104 based design in the data sheet (see attached).

The chip has many modes for fast and slow decay.

Very interesting. I have been working on a 3 axis board using a Parallax Propeller to drive 3 SLA7068 and control their settings. (I want to make it jumperless and with stand-alone control). The only downside for me was the Unipolar nature of the SLA chip. This would allow me to do Bipolar as well.

There is a reference design in that datasheet for a bipolar driver.

Does anyone know what these chips will/do cost?
