Has anybody found a good FPGA development board with a PCI connector on it that has a fair amount of I/O pinned out? I don't need a large FPGA, probably 3500 registers would be fine. It only needs to be fast enough for the PCI interface. I have written the verilog for a 4 axis motion control board that lives on the PCI bus and want to start testing it for real. I need about 80 lines of digital I/O in addition to the PCI interface. My first choice would be for the I/O signals to be brought out on header connectors, but other possibilities are open too. I don't want goofy stuff like DDR RAMS or ethernet phy's on the board. I looked at Lattice and their board has too much extra junk and not enough I/O. It is at least reasonably priced. Altera has a similar problem and the price is crazy high for a home project. Xilinx is more so. Thanks, Bob

Try looking at the site www.fpga4fun.com. There is a fourm thread just for PCI boards.

Check out Mesa Electronics: http://www.mesanet.com/ Their boards have from 200k to 1.5M gate Xilinx parts (Spartan-II or Spartan-3), and start at $200 (and go up to $400 or so). They have 3 or 4 I/O connectors, each with 24 I/Os and matching grounds plus a power/ground pair (at 3.3 or 5V, selectable by jumper). The connectors are for standard 50-pin flat ribbon cables. They have some code they give you, and there's also a driver (with full VHDL and C source) for EMC2 at http://www.linuxcnc.org/ - Steve
