New free Remote Jog Interface

I hope this design will give peeps that are a little bored and wanna add something onto their controller box.

I am releasing the PCB, component list and Firmware Free to all that want to build it.

The Remote Jog Interface is basically a stand alone pulse generator for driving any 3-axis controller box that uses the Step and Direction signals via the parallel port.

The main board has an onboard Pic Chip Processor running at 20mhz that monitors the push buttons and sends the correct pulses down to your controller box.

If you have only ever driven you machine via the Printer port using Windows software then you will be amazed at how smooth and how fast your motors can actualy run when you have not got the interference of windows.

I ran out of time tonight, but will have the rest of the page finished hopefully by the weekend, but a short outline of the project along with pictures and PCB are up on the site.
Follow the Free DIY Projects link at http://www.cncdudez.com for more information.

This is an ideal addon for people wanting to test their controller boxes and eliminate windows or software configuration when having problems.
Also when used in conjuction with a parallel port breakout box it could be switched over as a manual jog control.

I have not spent a lot of time designing it for a box etc etc as too busy with other projects, but if anyone wants to re-lay up the PCB and make it more pretty, they are more than welcome, all I ask is that you send me the picture and feedback so I can add it to the pages for other visitors to see.

Regards

Sean.

Hi Sean,

Good stuff, but I have a question. If one of these boards were used to jog a machine while a windows app controller were on line....what would happen to the position?

I see a manual machine with jog motors where you can move the machine without having to turn the handles....up to a point.

Hi Mike

Unless you have got encoders on your steppers that feed back the position of the machine then it will just be like moving the wheels manually, it should not effect the position cordinates of the windows app.

If there is enough interest in this then the next release I will draw up a circuit which will have an input for the parallel lead coming from the PC and a output back to the controller box. Then when a button is pressed it will automatically isolate the control from the PC and hand it to the Remote Jog and when the button is released it hands control back to the PC.

Regards

Sean.

Although I have aquired a second user "Supercam" setup to build my first cnc m/c, I shall be very interest to see how things progress.
My first quick read of your site findsit very clear and an easy read.
Nice to have something like this on this side of the pond.
Good luck,

Hi John

Many thanks for the boost and compliments.

Have now finished the page tonight and if you see anything missing, then let me know.
I have to dig out a couple more RS part numbers, but apart from that it is ready to roll.

Regards

Sean.

Sean
Nice work!!!
It would be nice to add that control to the front of a control panel and be able to switch from the computer to the 10 buttons.
Ill be watching for the next step.

Keep up the great work.

Many thanks for project,all works!!!
It is a pity that there is no development:
1)ramp speed
2)speed control by any pot.
3) A -Axis
4)switch PC/JOG

I have added DS1669 (digital potentiometer) for speed control at remote control by 2 butt. up/down

I belivie that is a lot of peple wishing to a get a finished ver.
for a remote jog controller ,
Certainly for a reasonable payment

Many thanks again
