    building stepper motor driver

    hi all,
i saw a lot of stepper motor driver circuit, but i want to build my own driver with pic microcontroller for my cnc router. i am a newbie in pic microcontroller.
What are the specifications should be available in this driver to make stepper motor fast, strong and smoothing.
    thanks.

I would recommend you start considering the combination PIC - L297 - L298.

Check out the 297/298 datasheets, they are really helpful.

Not sure but if you need strenght a way to go is high current (the stepper must be able to handle it)...the larger the current through the stepper winds, the stronger the steps.

Start by reading the thread by "Kreutz" on this forum. unipolar motor microstepping

Designing your own driver is not for "newbies". It requires test equipment and electronic engineering knowledge.

Your best bet is to build a known working circuit with its designed printed circuit board and then assemble it yourself.

    hi
I've built many stepper motor driver from pminmo.com . But I have not done building microstepping driver. I have tried to build linistepper But this circute does not work on high power. I want to build driver work with stepper motor 8Amp and 100v.
    thanks

I don't know how much electronic knowledge you have but here is a guy who used the L297 and a FET driver to build a 20A 100V unipolar driver.
    "20A Unipolar Stepper Driver"

It may provide further ideas for your design in case you want a bipolar driver.

8 amps at 100 volts is 800 Watts of power! You can heat a small room with that much energy! That is well into the range where a servo motor would be a better fit. I would encourage you to look at servo systems rather than steppers if you really need that much power.

Regarding STEPPER or SERVOS decision - here is Gecko's recommendation.

100v is dangerous for beginners. Be extra careful!

    hi
I try to build 8 head woodworking cnc router. And I need this power for this machine.
Servo systems very expensive. I try to convert dc motor to servo but i have not any knowledge about this.
    thanks

    hi
I've built very simple driver with pic 16f628a and irf3205 working with full step.
