    Which driver?

I currently have a DIY gantry router with Tormach steppers and Avrstmd.com drivers. I'm building a second smaller fixed gantry router 12x12. I want to use some recycled steppers, they are square Nema23 bipolar 4wire, 1.8deg/step, 3.4V, 1.8A, unknown oz-in, PN STP-57D301. They were reclaimed from a large Printek dot-matrix machine, they were running on 40VDC in the printer. I'm actually using one of the power supplies from the printer on my bigger router.
I'm looking for a DIY opensource driver for these motors, I cannot afford a G540 which is my first choice. I can route single or double sided PCBs on my big router with the help of eagle and pcbgcode. Is there a DIY opensource driver that has eagle files available and has some good performance, 1/8 microstep or better, can handle 40VDC (spare power supply from one of the Printek printer)?
The linstepper is looks great but is a unipolar driver which I can possibly use for some of the multitude of unipolar steppers I have reclaimed
    Thanks for your help!

My other option is to use the Linstepper with these motors (I have 4)

edit: James told me these motors are not well suited for the Linstepper. Back to the unknown bipolar steppers.

Did you ever get anywhere with those Printek steppers?

    not really, my situation changed.
I was able to dig up the funds for the G540 and a couple of new ACME screws for my main machine. The G540 is installed and I need to get the ACME screws machined and installed. Once the upgrade is done I will revisit the small steppers as I want to use them and all the old parts from the bigger machine on the 12"x12" PCB router.
Still going to use them on the 12"x12" just have not got there yet.

I'm working on building a mill. Well actually I've restructured it 4 times now, trying to resolve a whole slew of issue's. I'm using the same Printek stepper's. I was just curious to see what kind of performance you were getting. Do you have any other info on them? I'm guessing their some where around 80 oz-in or maybe even less.
