Hi all, For several years now, I have had the desire to build my own CNC Router. However, after many hours of reading Posts on this Forum, several attempts at building the basis of a machine, I finally gave up, although I still had to have a CNC Router. Now, I have done it the easier way. Having recently retired, I decided to purchase a home built CNC Router that suddenly became available. After driving to Adelaide to collect it in my Ute, I have managed to put it back together. Correctly, I hope. I have pictures but as yet have not loaded them into the computer, so for now, a brief description will have to suffice. Electronics: Stepper Motors x & y axis 430oz-in, z axis is smaller, also have spare 430oz-in, ie.4 motors total. 3 x M542 Microstepping Drivers 2 x 40vdc Stepper power supply 1 x 12vdc power supply for interface between motors and computer is the C11 break out board from CNC4PC Emergency stop button, Microcontroller based Safety Charge Pump Table: Steel Frame construction, with structural aluminium gantry Y axis Linear rails - vxb bearing blocks on 20mm x 1600mm solid ground hardened steel. X axis linear rails and leadscrew is salvaged from an old IBM pick and place machine. lead nut has some slack in it. Z axis constructed from solid aluminium plate, has nsk? i think ballscrew, with nsk? linear bearings 16mm dia. Brand new miluwakee speed adjustable die grinder 7,000 - 30,000rpm Shop Vac for the dust 1300watt, 5m long hose I also have a variety of endmill/slotdrill/ ball nose cutters. However, I am reluctant to switch it on until I am more confidant that I have hooked all the wiring up correctly. Some of the Posts that I have read have mentioned 'Blue smoke' and that seeing it is not good. Given my level of expertise in electronics, I have probably wired the ON switch to the blue smoke release circuit. I really don't want to see that blue smoke. I live in St. Albans, and would appreciate it if someone who knows a lot more than I do, could spare the time to visit and and check my machine to make sure it is safe to switch on. Just send me a PM and we can go from there. Did I mention that I am very keen to have my machine running. Regards, Albert P.S. Knowing that pictures are very important to everyone, I will get onto them and post them tomorrow. |
