Cool looking control rig. I have the exact same Dell PC running mine. What are the DRO's displaying? Do you have another E-Stop in the loop? That position doesn't look like it's in a panic spot.

I guess that goes to show that you can only "cheap out" so much ;-)

    Hello again.

Yeah, it has just 3 leaders/connectors. Is it no ground? the motor is still need 3 leaders to run?? if it is a brushless...

    That's right Robert.

The VFD and the spindles are brushless as I told you on the phone, thus needing three wires.

We'll figure out a secure way to ground it, one way or another.

Brushless VFD? Unless your machine is made of 100% MDF or HDPE, I'm pretty sure the spindle will be grounded. Check continuity with your ground bar.

    Hi Scobob,

I have installed another Estop on the monitor arm just near the monitor since I took that photo, makes it a bit more “convenient” however I must say that together with the limit switches and the soft switches I have never had to use it.
The DRO’s are showing 5V, 12V and 48V even though it shows 38V, I still need to fine tune it, also the Dell is a very steady platform, never had any problems with it, knock on wood…..

    Hi Rober,

My spindle is a 2.2Kw and also has 3 pin connector, I actually drilled and taped an Earth connection on top of my spindle and wired it back to my VFD (my spindle is isolated from the mounting bracket by rings that I cut from a plastic Coke bottle, makes grate spaces, however isolates the spindle from the earth loop on my machine) I highly recommend earthling you spindle if it doesn’t have good earth loop to your VFD

Why would you want to isolate your spindle with plastic? To reduce noise emissions back into the machine and possibly into electronics? I will for sure drill and tap a ground on my too!!

Actually, it’s a bit of a fix rather than a purpose, when I first ordered my spindle from China, the seller gave me incorrect dimensions on the circumference of the spindle, I made the bracket and discovered that when the spindle arrived it was actually about 1mm smaller then what he claimed, so as a quick fix, I cut up a Coke bottle and hey presto! But yes, by pure chance it also isolates the spindle from the rest of the machine, thus my earth connection.

Another option is to use thin metal sheet - no need for earth wire

HOWEVER i see the ebay ones claim to be ground to .01mm

    .01 millimeters = 0.000393700787 in

That is a pretty good deal, if you buy them test the run out with a dial indicator. I might have to buy those as well.

Why use a collet with .0002" runout in a Chinese spindle with .002" to .005" TIR? It has been my experience that the Chinese spindles do not meet their published specs.
