    RepRap like community?

I know that some of you know of the RepRap machine and the community that surrounds it, but is there a similar one for our passion for CNC?

RepRap website states: The primary goal of the RepRap project is to create and to give away a makes-useful-stuff machine that, among other things, allows its owner cheaply and easily to make another such machine for someone else.

Are there some individuals doing this? I know there are costs involved (materials, electricity, etc...) and if you are doing this - what are you charging for this service?

    Anybody in mid-Michigan? (Lansing, Flint?)

    Cheers,
    Red

i was just looking at the reprap machine thought it was unique, but i just had an idea, what if you could build a rerap machine, but instead of plastic you used a mig welder in place. one could build 3d components from welding wire, just a thought and i am no welder so whether this could work or not may be answered by an expert.

    Contraptor

We have started a project at contraptor.org basically we have designed a few CNC designs and they are all opensource and fully available. That being said we are trying to start a community that can hack and mod each design. Right now we have a dremel like attachment for the cnc. However, I am in the process of designing an extruder (reprap/makerbot) attachment that will mount directly on to the existing CNC setup.

    Come check it out.

I am buying the contraptor hardware it uses 1" angle aluminum. It is a design that seems more modular than the reprap. I also like it because it can be used to cut out my designs done in cad so I can have plastic molds. The reprap is not a cnc mill this is a dremel mill and other things. I am useing emc2 the reprap g code seems buggy or the developers of this device seem to be having trouble with it.
