High end and forget the router...

I don't imagine everyone around here just cuts wood with thier routers but I want a build that is a bit bigger... here is what I'm looking at

Price limit: $15,000

OPTIONS

Can cut: pretty much anything steel, real steel 4140 etc
Accurate: +- .001 at the worst +- .0001 would be optimum with 2 tenths repeatability
Number of axis: 3 minimum, more is better
Spindle: R-8 taper or similar rigid and interchangable
Cooling: Flood coolant, preferably thru spindle, large circulation system etc.
Control: Your choice, but intuitive and easy preferably compatible with everything
Style: Gantry or conventional etc your choice
Enclosure: Any
Max work size: 18" x 14" x and y
Tool carriage: Automatic tool change if you can fathom it as many tools as you can fit

What you have available

-Full machine shop with CNC capability (some what limited)
-Access to 2 Haas TL-2's most of the time
-2 and 3 axis bridgeport retrofits all you want with mill-power
-Limited access to some faddal and some other machines with up to 4 axis and solid works capability.
-Precision surface grinders
-Tool post grinder etc
- Most of the other convetional machine shop tools etc etc...
-Lots of free metal for castings
-Acccess to free fixturing in aluminum
-A furnace capable of casting iron in quantites of 400 lbs per mold
-Still don't have advanced mold capabilities however considering building foam cutter for lost foam casting if needed.
-Lots of smart people with machining experience
-3 old foundry sand crabs

If you have any questions about anything else that may be available please let me know. I'm sure there are things I have missed that will need to be brought up...

I might be wrong but I think that X and Y should be 18' X 14' i.e in feet and not inches.
18' -- feet
18" -- inches

well sometimes I say that... but it all depends on what I'm building or repairing that day. I would however like to know that my machine is capable of holding NASA type tolerances and meets ISO 9000 criteria.

Is this in the right area? Do you want to spend 15k to build something with those kind of tolerances or are you looking to get a machine for that? If it is 18" X 14" then that honestly should be a pretty simple thing especially with a used machine. If it's 18' then good luck. Just the ballscrew itself will not have tolerances of .001 over 18 feet. I hope that you are looking to build a machine because I would love to see it come together. Especially since my budget is much closer to 1/10th of what you are spending.

It is customary to start your own thread to ask questions that have nothing to do with the topic you post in. I realize you may be new at posting on Forums and may have French as your first language. Perhaps not.
THK 12's is all that would be needed on some machines. Then HSR 55's may not be large enough for others. Feed us a little more info in your NEW thread.

Buy me a Beer?

rather than trying to build a machine that can do what your asking for why not buy a new or used toolroom haas , the machines are cheaply priced and you'll be able to cut steel or whatever reliably and you can have the relief that you didn t shell out 15,000 for something that probably won t do what your expecting
