Hey CNCZone. I've been a follower for a while and decided like so many before to build my own router table. Due to projects that I plan on using the table for I decided on a desktop that could cut delrin and aluminum or stainless plate no bigger than 1'x1' in size. My projects mainly include motorcycle brackets and such maybe with a small prototype thrown in there in foam board from time to time. I've searched and not been able to find a table or a set of plans out there. I have access to a ton of 80/20 and figured it would be a good start for a table of this size. Can anyone make a suggestion? Again I've performed several searches and viewed the bigger machines for inpspiration. |

The Joe CNC or the JGRO units and if you want to spend a couple dollars go get David Solsylvas step by step plans for a few different ones. I think the only issue is that you can scale the X/Y/Z to fit your needs. I am going to build a small all alluminum Joe machine but the size is going to be like half or 1/3rd scale to his original for the projects it will be doing (electronics boards) Joe's and JGRO's machines are scalable just remove inches so if you need 1'x1'x2" x/y/z then make the the y-axis lets say and make sure the tip of the bit will move 12 or more inches center to center. If the axis is only 12" total in width you will only have maybe 8" or less inches of cutting distance. You have to count in the width of the spindle/router the width of the z-car and other such distance soakers. I would say that with alot of 80/20 available you should just build the unit as big as the shop alows for anyway. I think most peeps here at the zone that have built one would always say "if my cnc would just go that little distance further...." so if you can build a 36"x24" and 3" z then do it or that one time you need 14" cut distance on your 12 by 12 inch cnc you will be smacking yourself in the head knowing full well you had the materials to make it capable of more but choose to make it smaller. either way 12 or 24" you will be hooked you will love it and I would like to say Welcome to the zone! Coog
