A 5 Axis Router

The attached document is a PDF containing a U S Patent of a machine with 5 Axes. It may give some builders a Idea or 2.

Anyone know the software needed to generate code for this type of machine?

I have already seen a machine like this built prior to the patent, but you can change one little thing and get a patent, this one has a lifting z-axis which is slightly different than the one i had seen before.

It would be a good challange , but only if I knew I could use it when I'm done .

You need a specific 5 axes post-processor customized for your machine to generate the right trajectories (depending on contact point absolute coordinates, tool orientation, tool length, tool radius,... ).

I'm new to forums, but I have a question:

Can't the LinuxCNC program handle any 5 Axis cutting? It supports moving up to 9 axes simultaneously.

Absolutely.

EMC can handle five or six axis machining. The problem isn't running the program; it's writing the program.

A good CAM program will do that for you.

Don't have plans for this machine. I just thought the document was interesting and would possibly spawn some ideas for builders.

Well I am not going to built a 5 axis but thank you a TON! cause you just gave me a nice way to get the 4th axis done on my machine finally. This plan gave me what I was looking for for the spin axis.

Hello Clockwork

I believe both Mastercam and Surfcam are capable of having 5 (or more) axis post-processors written for them. Neither is cheap and as this would be a custom post I suspect a charge would be involved.
