Question Anyone used Simple Step (TM) SSXYZ controller?

Hi,

It's now time to start building that CNC router. I own a SSXYZ controller from Simple Step and I was wondering if anybody has used that board for CNC purposes?

Another question arrised after a little bit of reading. Does anybody uses EMC2 under Linux for controlling the machine or must I rely on Windows or DOS? I really want to get rid of Windows.

I've seen a nice machines on HobbyCNC.com and several other US sites. I've searched the internet for local european equivalent sites, but there seems to be more hobbyist CNC activity in the US. My question is wether US plans and the parts referenced can be easily purchased in "metric" countries or will I encounter a serious inch to mm conversion problem?

Thanks for any reply.

EMC2 under Linux

yeah Ron39 is using it. Seems like he has it down to a science. Here is his link in the forum...http://cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45667

Most of the bearings used in the CNC builds are in metric and I dont think the conversions are any big deal. Just substitute what you need or have. I am speaking metaphorically since I havent completed my build as yet. But I have built simular machines that required a conversion and did not have any problems. just my -$.02 worth.

If you dont have it scrounge
