A Small Lathe Router

Just finished construction of a small lathe router. It accomodates a workpiece up to 9 inches long and 7 inches in diameter.

The rotary axis is a used Taig lathe (no lathe motor). The lathe spindle is driven by a belt connected to a stepper motor working into a 50:1 reducer.

What I Do With My Machines

I most likely won't use this machine for a month or so. Plan to use it
to create spiral patterns and engrave/carve the outside of cylinders.

My strategy for this machine is to define the rotary axis workpiece as a linear plane. I did a spreadsheet that shows the diameter needed to create a specific circumference. Blanks are first turned on a engine lathe to the needed diameter. The spreadsheet also shows the steps/unit to be entered into the Mach 3 configuration since it will be different for various diameters.

Hope that made sense.

What do I do with my machines?

My website is under construction waiting for photography. There is a picture there now. The URL is http://www.joekuter.com
