Hi Guys, I've been researching and decided I want to build a CNC router, I'm hoping that it will be around 500.00 total. I heard this is possible, I bought the RockCliff CNC router plan, but it's not being so clear on where to get parts, maybe it did, but it pointing to like 10 places to buy 10 thing. Taking shipping cost into conderations, there's no way I can make a table less then 200.00. Where can I buy most of the hardware from? ground shaft, linear bearings and ball screw, thing like that. Less important hardware I can probably get it from Home Depot (I hope). Oh, I live in Arizona, USA. Thanks in advance. |

| Try this site. http://www.hobbycnc.com/links.php and http://www.mikebeck.org/ You won't believe what an incredible hassle it is to find all the parts. A major problem when I used Dave Rigotti's plans was when I bought the lead screws from the company he recommends. All you get is a section of lead-screw with threads up to the very end. You can't properly attach a coupling to the ends because of this, so you have to find a machine shop to turn down the ends to a rounded cross-section. What a major f--king hassle. I called the company, and they told me it would cost me a few hundred dollars to even chuck-up the lead screws that they had already sent me. Or, I could have a local shop do the same. How about I just flush my money down the toilet? Fortunately, there are sellers on Ebay now that sell lead screws for hobbyists. They are ready for use without any additional lathe work. Then the "door stop" material isn't available from the retards at "Home Depot" (Home Cheapo). So, it would have been nice had he used more standard dimensions that the big-box stores offer. Cutting down your over-sized material just doesn't leave as-nice of a finish as the factory finish. (OK, this can be overcome, but it's just so much easier to buy material that only needs one-dimension cut) |

| When i made my RockCliff i got all the hardware parts from here: (default hardware was about 100 bucks i think). they also carry ballscrews/nuts if you want to go that route (or ebay it) http://www.mcmaster.com/ if you are going to upgrade to linear bearings, these are the cheapest new I have found or else hunt through ebay http://www.vxb.com/ and the driver board/steppers from here: http://www.xylotex.com/ (site seems to be down for me atm) 3axis kit was 345 with power supply motors, and driver board then with laminate trimmer router head i think I had 550 in mine total the electronics can be switched to any machine you make in the future as well. |
