I was thinking of building my own cnc router. Where do I start? Are there any good books out there? Are there any good plans out there? Whats the best material to make the machine out of? I usually make eveything a little more rigid than it needs to be, but thats the way I am. I would appriatiate any help. Thank you. |

| The best material to use depends on how much money you are willing to spend. The JGRO, Lionclaw and Joe's machine are made from MDF. The Machine Tool Camp uses aluminium extrusions which can get a little expensive. The new large (4x8) machine is the Mechmate machine is quite rugged and is made from steel. Jason |

| The material choice is not only about the money. Look at your skills, experience, tools and facilities and then decide if you will use wood, alu or steel. In which of these materials are you best equipped to hold tight dimensions? |

| You should build what is right for you, the question is what do you want to with? and then you can make a better decision on design and budget req. The basic machine can be cheap, what you want to get right is what drives it, build a play toy maybe then upgrade |
