hi guys im total n00b to CNC stuff but im interested in making an cnc.. anyway, I was lurking this forum these days and i like the projects u done, but im unsatisfied because I couldnt find a free and suitable project for my interest. I would need a CNC no bigger than 0.50*0.50m, i would mostly make PCB projects and maybe work with plexiglass.. small sizes of course.. all projects i found here r very big and not suitable... since im in east europe its hard to work with US components, so I managed to find some stepper motors from printers which I will use, the electronic part I will build from pminmo.. anyway, I would ask you if sum1 could provide me an open source project for making a small CNC. I will use to dremel tool and Id like the CNC to be made of metal parts if possible so plz, help me =) thx guys |

Well I think the jgro plans http://www.cnczone.com/forums/jgro_router_table_design/ would work and you could simply modify them down to the sizes you need but I think you should build it as it is, this is because you can do VERY small parts on a medium table but you will never do that one medium part you need and a very small table. If your pushing a dremel throught those materials the jgro with smallish steppers should work if you take your time to make sure it is built very precise. You can modify his plans and you most certainly can use metals but metals = wieght and the smaller steppers will have more to carry before they hit product. One of the things I like to stress is this the steppers DO matter and that they are what makes a difference in your cuts. If they are under strength they will miss steps and then your cuts are all messed up. If they are tooo big then its wasted as waste heat so get ones about 30% bigger than the exact need. If your pushing a dremel through wood and figure a 100oz/in stepper than get a 150oz/in to be safe. BY THE WAY - this is an oopurtunity for you to develop your own plans. I am certain my next CNC will be of my own design. I am going to start a CNC step by step thread just because of this thread!. Coog.
