    Rockcliff

I just got my plans for the little ROCKCLIFF (12"x12"X5") router and I have a Dremel Advantage high speed rotary Saw I want to use. It just a little bigger than a standard hnad held Dremel tool. Its more like a ROTO ZIP. If I can use this tool , what would I have to "beef" up? This in reality will be an educational project for me to learn about CNC, steppter motors ETC. I would love to hear from anyone that has built this router! Thanks in advance!

P.S. I just retired so have lots of time to learn....grin

    Hi
You can use a larger router than a standard dremel I have used a 5 amp trim router with 1/4" bits, and a roto-zip sized tool is fine, you can also see this cnc link Rockcliff Router Build for some builders that have built the machine and if you can send me your email address and I will send you an invite to the Rockcliff Builders Group for any assitance that you require

I have also ordered the Rockcliff plans and am collecting parts. I am building the 'enlarged' model via the plans. I will probably make some mods as parts come in. Right now while waiting for parts I am trying to figure out this whole moter/controller/PS/speed thing. I'm startiing to see the light, but definately have more reading to do here.

Hey Nick, what is this Rockcliff Builders Group of which you speak? I didn't see anything about it in my e-mail when I got the password, did I miss someting? Is this a group here?

Anyhow, good luck with your build Wayne.

We just created a yahoo group about a week ago I have started going down the list of all plan holders from the the last year and will invite all, you should get an invite within a couple of weeks or so , but if you send me your email address I will make sure it get's in the next batch sent, it's a closed group only to plan holders, so I have to send the invitations thru yahoo, lately from the popularity of this router, I find myself bouncing all over many forums and threads to try to help people, it getting more difficult to do, the group will also be used to get any current revisions and additions to the plan set.

Great Nick, thanks. I won't getting serious on the build for a couple of weeks maybe (am getting itchy though), so I won't bug ya about it. I can appreciate how that must keep ya hopping.

If I get in trouble, or don't hear from you in a couple of weeks I'll pop an e-mail off then.

    Thanks again,
    BobL.

    Nick,

Thanks so much for the reply. Have been studying your plans for a week now
and having never tried anything like this I'm sure I will need all the help I can get. I really don't understand when one would use a bi-polar stepper over a uni-polar stepper so have lots of studying to do. But everyone here seems able and willing to assist and will keep everyone posted as I progress!

I am starting one as well. I checked with McMaster-Carr about the 5/8" rod and bushings. They say two weeks for shipping the rod. Is this a special order ? Any other source for the rod ?

    Thanks !

I got all mine at Metal Super Market 5/8 for the z and x, 3/4 for the y local for $35. Lowes actually stocks the bushing so you save a few bucks on shipping.

    Hi Don
That's great that you were able to get bronze bushings from Lowes, were they a special item or do they stock them as a normal item? nice to hear that you used 3/4" on your Y axis for a stronger machine

Is your machine the smaller version ? Is 3/4" recommended for the Y axis. It's not too late for me to go 3/4" also.
