There are lots of good designs, you just have to look around. You might want to look at the 80/20 builds. www.cncrouterparts.com has some free plans. Ask some questions in the PCB routing forum. Goto the Electronics section for Open Source drivers.

check out www.pminmo.com. I made the a3977 driver board to drive anything under 36v and 2.5a. There are a lot of different designs for both bipolar and unipolar drivers. If you have any questions post something on his forum he replies very fast and is very helpful.

Before I built my data cut machine, I was just wanting to do PCB. The fireball V90 kept coming up. About $1000 and you are ready to go. I think you can buy plans or do it in kit form.

However, I would check carefully that it had precise enough bearings and mounts to ensure precision good enough for your needs.

I think there is a yahoo groups for the fireball, as well as a group for DIY PCB. Check those out.

    Hello y'all,
I didn't want to create a new thread on the same matter, so I'll merge my question into this same thread:

I'm also looking for a DIY PCB CNC, with a 10"x10" area, or something around that. I want it to hold heavy-ish tools such as a dremel (instead of something like a flexible shaft). I really like the probotix fireball p90 and the lumenlab micRo v3 designs. However I am looking for a diy-approach. Are there plans or drawings for machines on such size? I took a look at most widely available plans on the net and they usually span larger dimensions, but I wanted a small desktop machine.

Btw, I already have the electronics working. 4 linistepper drivers with Vexta Nema 17 steppers running through EMC2. Maybe I'll upgrade to an USB approach, but all I wanted to know if there is anyone who knows about such available (not necesserily free) design.

    Cheers,

    Pedro Cimini
