Has anyone tried to use a all-thread rod as a rack gear. I custom built some concave helical spur gears to run on the all-thread out of Delrin , and secured the rods to the frame of my x and y axis carriages. Spur gears connected to the steppers directly. Using this on a cnc plasma cutter, as screw drives using standard all-thread was going to be too slow. I'm interested in anyone's experiences or thoughts on this type of setup. ???? |

| I made a worm gear assembly using the same components and played with the gear on ready rod (which i used to form the gear) , the thought of trying it as a rack setup had seriously crossed my mind and i was planning to try it on a small project that I've been chipping away at . I have no doubt it will work , the gear that i made was aluminum and I was wondering what the wear properties will be , now you've got me wondering how delrin would wear , i think it would have good wear but would probably strip a tooth easily . keep us posted on how it works out for you
