Are there any plans or does the following even exist?
I would like an autonomous cnc router that I can place on a surface and it is self-aware of its location and is self-contained.
No table, no gantry, no rails. Just a self moving router that can adjust it's z-axis and move x and y on it's own.
I guess it would need some sort of laser tracking to discover where it is and then follow it's instructions moving as necessary around the work piece.
I can see this becoming an issue if it mills an area that is in its path of movement. Are there any products like this; what are they called?
Thanks
Zach

Wow, thank you. That was amazing. Years ago I bought an epilog zing 24 and did lots of cool craft stuff. But I always wanted to do shoji style panels. This tool is amazing. Thank you so much for pointing me in this direction.

Uses belts that you place on the surface instead of rails.

this one looks pretty cool..it uses a vision system to orient itself to the program and workpiece
