    Onecnc purchase

Had a very informative visit from the Onecnc representative this morning, was in contact with their local office this afternoon, and I made the decision to buy Onecnc mill professional
Now I need to get a new PC to replace the asthmatic steam powered thing we currently use in the business

    Moulder,

    Sounds good!

Stick with the Intel processors and Nvidia video: two less possible headaches If they are in a tower, so much the better.
First you get good, then you get fast. Then grouchiness sets in.

    Cool

    Hi Moulder

Great choice with Onecnc!! , as far as the pc goes the Vostro (has serial port for RS232 too) should run onecnc like a dream !!

Id get at least the 2gb ram( or 3gb Max ) though ,as 1gb is a bit sluggish with vista.

If you dont mind opening the box below could save some dosh:-

www.crucial.com (supply dell with their memory)

www.ebuyer.com (for quite a saving on nvidia graphics cards)

    Have Fun!!

    Cheers Kev

Ps dont forget to join the Onecnc user forum too, great place for help !!

    Kev,

Thanks for the encouragement and tips

I have enough problems without poking about in a computer, so I will just buy from Dell, I have just upped the spec of my Vostro to include 3gb ram and the 512mb Nvidia geforce 988gt graphics card this pushes the price up to £659 hopefully that's not too much "over the odds" to ease the pain I am considering it necessary to get the best out of my Onecnc investment.

    I am now anxiously waiting..........

    Cool

    Hi Martin

Sounds like the dogs dodaas to me with that spec , Onecnc will fly with it .

I assume that the Quad core processer too

As far as opening box not too difficult , but would probably only save around a £100 or so and could need a little research into the graphics card .

Will be able to play the latest pc games in your lunch break too with that spec

    Cheers Kev

    Kev

I am on the very limit of my computer understanding and I am not sure we are still speaking English

The Processor in the Dell spec is "intel core 2 duo e8400 (3.00GHz 133MHz, 6MB cache"

    Is this still good?

No worries ( im begining to turn into a geek i think )

This is 2 core , which is still ideal and maybe better as faster speed than equivilant quad core (Onecnc only uses 1 core at the moment)

    Go get it!!

    Cheers Kev

LOL thats 1333MHz 133MHz you would be running slow in notepad, not good.

It looks like a good build, just make sure after you get it you go into the msconfig and turn off all those unwanted and useless programs like messenger. It will boot faster and run smoother

    Hi Martin

Your £659 Dell vostro 420 with Vista or Xp is just fine (well very good in fact)

(I personally wouldnt go back to XP when Windows 7 is out end of year some good features in Vista too)

Toby is just havin a laugh at your typing error as you left off a "3". (the pc spec is perfect for onecnc!)

    Cheers Kev
