    OneCNC Looking Good!!!

Looks like OneCNC is staying ahead of a few of the other CAD/CAM Suppliers.

My question is what PC's are you guys using??

No doubt my Dell Precision M4400 will handle it but some of my other PC's may not.

I scoped out the FAQ and only found these.

    http://www.onecnc.net/general/frequent_questions.htm

So what are you guys running?

How long does tool path generation take for simple surface topologies??
    A few simple examples below.

Just a few questions before speaking to a rep that should be calling back soon.

    Cool

    Go for it Toby !!

    Fantastic Software!!

My 5year old pc is running Xr3 mill fine up to v10.65 which was a month or 2 ago when they stepped up a gear with the simulation which stumped my old Athalon 2200+ . In general though most pcs will run it with just a modest basic low end gaming card. Maybe for more complex models or complex 3d toolpaths you might need a little more higher spec Pc but nothing crazy!!

I too started with BC Wire and found the cad side a breeze to change over to Onecnc .( I reckon youd recognise quite a few names in the Onecnc Forum )

    Cheers Kev

I'm running it on.....I dunno....3 to 5 year old hardware...dangit it was new when I bought it , Athlon64 cpu and ATI X800 video.

Like Kev said, beware the old athlon cpu before the 64 series, they just don't seem to be able to run XR3 simulation at all anymore. But you can model and create toolpaths on the older hardware, still.

As for speed of toolpathing, that is impossible to nail down in generalities, because if you set a tight toolpath tolerance and a very fine step down, you can bog down darn near anything. I think its reasonably fast, I have nothing to compare it to. Put it this way, if I wait longer than 2 or 3 minutes, chances are I did something wrong with my settings. I'd expect to wait longer if I've got a really large complex surface to machine. In many circumstances, I would, if it is feasible, break a really large operation down into smaller ones (like by controlling Z top and bottom of job in a meaningful pattern) so as to lessen the time to regenerate a portion of the path because of a problem at some particular level. I hope that makes sense.
First you get good, then you get fast. Then grouchiness sets in.

I would probably recognize at least 25% of them, LOL.

The Dell Precision is well....Loaded to say the least.

    Dell Precision M4400
    XP Pro SP3 32bit
    Core 2 Duo T9400 @ 2.53GHz
    4GB RAM
    Nvidia Quadro FX 1700M 512MB

The other falls a little short at

    Dell Inspiron 1520
    XP Pro XP3 32bit
    Core 2 Duo T7250 @ 2.0GHz
    2.5GB RAM
    Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT 512MB

Both are CPUID Certified and work pretty hard. The Precision is 5 months old and the Inspiron is a year and 3 months.

I bought the little woman a PC with an AMD and it flopped with just a single part. It crashed after the part opened for only a few seconds. LOL, what a POS, but some people really like AMD's.

I am working on a Box Build that is doing the Mastercam Bench Test in a little over 4 minutes. This guy posted his build and it's like $1500. NICE!!

I stay with DELL because if SW, MC, Pro/E and a few others recommend them they have to be good.

Thanks for the info and I will patiently await the call from OneCNC.

LOL, you mean they aren't going to bother me 4 times a day for 3 months??? WOW!!! Sounds good to me

I have cash and credit, LOL, I assume they will accept both. I am looking for Performance not a Sale Price. It looks like it is worth the cash.

PC's, I have to take a Lap Top to job sites to be able to work, so yes I like Lap Tops, the ones that SCREAM with Performance that is.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll call them.

After losing my previous laptop I switched to a backup that has been lying around: IBM Thinkad T40 1.5GHz Pentium-M and 32M ATI Radeon. This "powerhouse" works like a charm and is incredibly stable. It doesn't quite meet the recommended specs and can be a little slow on really complex high tolerance surfaces, but even so, quite an achievement. Your Dells should blow the heck out of almost anything.

Sales (UK in my case), top notch! And the guys in support, on the forum and here will sort out everything in no time at all.
