high speed machining ?

I have a question about the HSM option on XR3.

If your NC machine is an older machine without the HSM option (older Haas/fadal) can you still run the HSM path/prog from XR3 mill advantage?

Yes you can...it has more to do with smooth motions and controlled tool engagment...works very well with non high speed controls...Because it automatically filters the code into arc when possible it is actually much smoother on "non" look ahead controls than regular code..

Concering the HAAS mini mill. Do you know right off hand how many blocks look ahead this control has? Just trying to do a comparison. I'm considering buying a newer machine (2000 YCM) that has a Fanuc 0MC. The guy I talked to says he thinks the look ahead is in the "teens", possibly 20's. I'm wondering how that control will perform vs. the mini mill.

Sorry I don't...might ask a Haas HFO...Or there might be something on the Haas web site,,,the tests above where done without the "high speed look ahead" option...
